Our Safety Philosophy
At Saige Early Learning, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, secure, and valued. Safety isn’t a checklist we complete once and forget; it’s woven into every interaction, every decision, and every moment of care.

We maintain constant vigilance through systematic safety checks, highly trained staff, transparent communication, and a culture where every team member takes ownership of every child’s safety. When you choose Saige, you’re choosing a centre where safety never takes a day off.

Your most common safety questions, answered with transparency
We follow a comprehensive incident response protocol. First, the injured child receives immediate first aid from our trained educators. For injuries above the shoulders or if there’s any reason for concern, we’ll contact you and request seeking medical attention to ensure your child is safe and well.
Every incident is documented in detail, and you’ll receive a written incident report the same day. We also conduct a post-incident review to identify any improvements we can make to prevent similar incidents.
Every child with allergies has an Individual Risk Minimisation Plan developed in partnership with families.
We display ASCIA Action Plans prominently, we provide alternative meals, and ensure all staff are trained in EpiPen administration. Visual allergy identification systems help all staff quickly recognise children with allergies. We communicate with families about any potential allergen exposure and maintain multiple EpiPens in accessible locations throughout the centre.
We practice regular monthly evacuation drills to ensure everyone knows what to do in an emergency. When the alarm sounds, educators calmly gather their groups and move to our safe, designated assembly points, taking attendance and emergency contacts with them. Once there, we check that all children and staff are accounted for and follow any guidance from emergency services. Our team is fully trained in keeping children safe, and we have clear backup plans in place if needed.
Every team member at our centre is carefully screened before starting. This includes a verified Working with Children Check, checking professional references, confirming qualifications in early childhood education, and reviewing identity and work history. New staff also complete a probationary period with ongoing support and assessment. Working with Children Checks are updated every three years, and all staff regularly take part in performance reviews to ensure they continue to provide safe, high-quality care
We maintain ‘active supervision,’ meaning educators are positioned to see and hear all children, scan frequently, and are ready to intervene immediately. We conduct head counts before every transition and use documented supervision handovers when children move between educators.
For higher-risk activities, such as swimming, we follow specialised ratios (1:4) and additional supervision measures. Educators position themselves strategically to maximise visibility, and zones of supervision are used in outdoor areas to ensure all children are safe and accounted for
We use a trauma-informed, positive guidance approach to support children’s learning and growth. When conflicts or incidents happen, we make sure all children are safe, provide comfort, and offer guidance to help children understand how their actions affect others. We focus on teaching alternative behaviours, problem-solving, and emotional skills. Families are informed confidentially, and we work together if additional support is needed. Our goal is to help children feel safe, understood, and supported while learning how to manage their emotions and actions.
Absolutely! We believe in complete transparency. All our safety policies are available for review during tours, and we provide copies of key policies during the enrolment process.
You can also request specific policies at any time. Our policies cover emergency management, incident response, safe sleep, medication administration, child protection, supervision, behaviour guidance, and more.
We regularly review and update our policies to ensure they remain current and reflect best practices in child safety and care.
All educators complete comprehensive training, including First Aid in an Education and Care Setting (HLTAID012), renewed every three years, CPR (HLTAID009), renewed annually, anaphylaxis management and EpiPen administration, emergency asthma management, mandatory reporting and child protection, protective behaviours, safe sleep practices, infection control and hygiene, food safety, and trauma-informed care. We also provide ongoing professional development on emerging safety topics, risk assessment, and behaviour guidance strategies.

Water Safety & Swimming Lessons (Partner Swim School)
At Saige, we support children to build confidence, coordination and essential water safety skills through age-appropriate swimming experiences.
We’ve partnered with Aquabliss, which is located next door to Saige Early Learning, to offer convenient and safe swimming lessons. Children access lessons directly through internal access — there’s no need to walk through the car park — ensuring a secure and well-supervised transition between the centre and the swim school.
Learning to swim supports children’s physical development, confidence and understanding of water safety from an early age. These experiences are complemented by ongoing water safety education within our program.
All water-based experiences are guided by our Water Safety Procedure, which focuses on supervision, risk assessment and keeping children safe in and around water.
