School holidays are one of those rare gifts — stretches of unhurried time when children can breathe a little deeper, play a little longer, and discover things about themselves and the world that the busy school term simply doesn’t make room for. At Saige Early Learning, we don’t just look after children during the holidays. We design experiences worth remembering.

Here in Gregory Hills, our holiday programming is an extension of everything we believe about early childhood: that children are naturally curious, endlessly creative, and capable of far more than we often expect. Our holiday programs are built on the same child-centred, play-based foundations as everything else we do at Saige — and enriched by the unique extras that make our centre special: swimming lessons, dancing classes, and a community that genuinely feels like family.

“Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children.”

— Walt Disney

🌟 Why Holiday Programs Matter More Than You Think

It might be tempting to think of holiday care as simply a practical solution for working families. And while it absolutely is that, quality holiday programming offers something far richer: a purposeful extension of a child’s learning journey during the weeks when formal education pauses.

Research consistently shows that children who engage in stimulating, varied experiences during school holidays return to term with stronger social confidence, renewed curiosity, and better emotional regulation than children who spend breaks primarily in passive or screen-based activities.

🌍 100 Ways to Play — 365 Days a Year

Our 100 Ways to Play philosophy doesn’t take a school holiday. At Saige, the break between terms is when we lean hardest into playful, imaginative, and hands-on learning — because without the structure of the regular program, there is even more room for children to follow their curiosity, try something new, and astonish themselves with what they can do.

🎯 Our Six Holiday Program Pillars

Each school holiday program at Saige Early Learning is built around six intentional pillars that ensure every child, across every age group, gets a genuinely rich and balanced holiday week:

  • 🎨 Creative Arts — Large-scale art projects, mixed media, craft, and creative expression that goes far deeper than a typical weekday session allows.
  • 🔬 Science & Discovery — Hands-on experiments, nature investigation, and the kind of slow, curious science exploration that sparks genuine wonder.
  • 🏃 Movement & Sport — Active play, swimming, dancing, obstacle courses, and gross motor challenges that build physical confidence and health.
  • 🌿 Nature & Outdoors — Extended time in our outdoor environments — exploring, building, gardening, and connecting with the natural world around us.
  • 🎭 Drama & Storytelling — Role play, puppet shows, storytelling circles, and dramatic expression that build language, empathy, and joyful confidence.
  • 🍳 Cooking & Life Skills — Extended cooking experiences, simple life skills challenges, and the deep satisfaction of creating something real and useful.

🏊 The Saige Advantage: What Makes Our Holiday Program Unique

Holiday programming at Saige isn’t just about filling the days — it’s about offering experiences that genuinely go beyond what families can easily access elsewhere:

🏊 Swimming Lessons — Right Next Door

Through our partnership with the swim school next door, children in our holiday program can access swimming lessons directly through our back gate. Swimming during the holidays builds water safety skills, physical confidence, and a healthy relationship with active movement that lasts a lifetime.

🎵 Dancing Lessons — Rhythm, Confidence & Joy

Our dancing lessons give children the chance to move, express, and connect through music and rhythm. Coordination, creativity, and confidence — all wrapped up in something that simply feels like the best fun.

🌍 Inclusive, Diverse Community Programming

At Saige, diversity is genuinely celebrated. Our holiday programs intentionally incorporate experiences, stories, foods, and celebrations that reflect the beautiful breadth of our Gregory Hills community.

🍱 Nutritious Meals Included — Every Day

Our holiday program includes nutritious, tasty meals every day. Nappies, wipes, and sunscreen are also provided — so there’s genuinely no need to pack much at all. Easier mornings, more present children, one less source of school holiday stress.

🌟 From Our Educators at Saige

The most beautiful thing about holiday programming is the pace. Without the schedule pressure of a regular term day, children have time to get genuinely lost in something — to spend an hour on a single painting, to ask ten follow-up questions about a science experiment, to dance a little longer, laugh a little louder, and simply be children in the fullest and best sense. We treasure that pace, and we protect it with intention.

💡 Theme Weeks: Making Every Break an Adventure

Each school holiday period at Saige is anchored by a theme that weaves through the entire week’s activities, creating a sense of narrative and discovery that keeps children engaged across multiple days. Past themes have included Under the Sea, Space Explorers, Rainforest Detectives, and Around the World in Five Days.

Theme weeks also create wonderful opportunities for family connection — children come home with stories, questions, and projects that naturally extend into dinner conversations and weekend activities. The learning doesn’t stop at our gate, and neither does the excitement.

🏡 Supporting Working Families Through the Holidays

We understand that school holidays can present genuine challenges for working families in Gregory Hills and the wider Macarthur region. Our holiday program runs during our standard hours — Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 6:30pm — providing consistent, reliable care with no gap between school term and holiday cover.

We also provide all meals, nappies (for our younger children), wipes, and sunscreen — so the school holiday morning routine is genuinely simple.

🌟 “Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.” — Fred Rogers. Our holiday program is the purest expression of this truth. When children are free, unhurried, and genuinely engaged in play, they consolidate everything they’ve learned during the term — and lay the groundwork for everything the next term will bring.

👨‍👩‍👧 Making the Most of School Holidays at Home

For the days children aren’t in our program, here are some simple ways to extend the holiday learning at home in the Gregory Hills area and beyond:

  • Visit Macarthur’s parks and reserves — Narellan Town Centre’s surrounding parklands, Ingleburn Conservation Area, and the bush trails around Gregory Hills are wonderful for outdoor exploration and nature investigation.
  • Continue the theme at home — ask your child about the week’s theme at Saige and build on it together: books from the library, a related craft, or a related cooking project.
  • Screen-free mornings — even just a 2-hour screen-free window encourages imaginative play, outdoor time, and the kind of creative boredom that children genuinely need.
  • Cook something together — holiday baking and cooking is a wonderful extension of what we do at Saige. Simple recipes with real ingredients, shared at the table, build skills and memories simultaneously.
  • Practise swimming skills — if your child has swimming lessons through our program, gentle practice at your local pool reinforces confidence and water safety skills.
  • Keep bedtime consistent — maintaining a consistent bedtime routine across the holidays means children return to the school term regulated and well-rested rather than depleted.

At Saige Early Learning, school holidays are one of our favourite times of year — a chance to slow down, go deeper, try new things, and celebrate the extraordinary potential of every child in our care. We are proud to offer Gregory Hills families a holiday program that is genuinely worth looking forward to.
